The Dark Angel
Umm, hi.
I know I'm not your idea of a typical 14-year-old girl. My birthday's on 9th February, and I happen to like that date a lot. I share my birthday & birthday month with very awesome people.
I have a thing for heavy music, I love J-Rock and heavy metal. I adore the Visual Kei scene.
I'm an otaku. I spend my days rotting at the computer gawking at anime, manga, music and whatnot.
I'm weird. I tend to like dark and depressing things. It doesn't make me emo or suicidal. People do have their dark moments.
If you're easily offended by gay things, this might not be the right place for you. I love yaoi and you can't change that.
Interesting guitar riffs and shredding are my weakness. You might think guitar's my specialty, but it isn't. I do play acoustic and electric guitar, but piano's what I major in. I play the Guzheng a little too.
And that's about all I have to say about me.

mind twist

This girl is forever random. She might sometimes suffer from moodswings, but most of the time she's feeling... happy? I don't know.
She likes to be called goth and not emo.
She is all for gay.
She has somehow developed a glasses fetish from staring at the picture up there.
When she's feeling sad, she'll go ranting about things and sound like a philosopher.
She is a narcissist.
Red, black and purple are the colours to describe her mood.

-I'm back. Again.- 6:47 PM

Hello everyone. I'm back again.
I know I have not posted anything for ages.
If you're still reading this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, whoever you are.
I really feel touched to know that there are people who care.
Thanks for taking the time to even check my blog, knowing there might not be a new post.

It seems that nowadays when I post something it means that there's something wrong with me.

It's the holidays now, do you wanna know what I'm up to? Sure.
This Thursday morning I have to attend a rehearsal for an upcoming performance that I've been awaiting since last year. We've been really busy, and we've only actually got something done last week. The sad case of my band and I.
In the afternoon I have choir practice, nothing special, though I have missed all of 3 practices thanks to my 5 continuous days of intensive practice for the choral festival. This means a lot to catch up on, but this is probably the last thing on my mind.
Afterwards, my good friends from choir are going to sort out a Canon remix at my house. This has been thought of for quite long, and I've recorded some GarageBand stuff, but honestly, I've done shit for it. I'm really sorry for my friends.

The worst thing is that I have this terrarium project that has been initiated by my friends earlier this year, and there was quite some hype about it, unfortunately the workshop we've been eager to conduct has been put off so many times by - yes, procrastination, and the terrarium is currently dying. In fact, new plants have been planted already. But the problem here is that my dear teacher wants us to conduct the workshop on Thursday at the same time as my choir practice and well, I'm really at a loss as to what to do. She clearly told us it would be on Wednesday. I don't see how all this confusion came about, but very unfortunately for me to say, my friend hasn't really been taking the initiative to inquire herself and I've been given the responsibility to settle everything.
Well, I really have no idea what on earth to do to settle this mess.
And I don't actually blame my friend either, I'm really a big fuck up. I have no fucking idea what to do anymore.
I really wouldn't mind if someone knocked me out at this moment, thinking about all this is utterly unbearable. I don't want to think about it, but I contradict myself. I am an ironic wreck.

And the day I really dread - 18th of November. It's the day after the closing gala of the choral festival, yeah yeah. That's nothing. That morning I'd have to get my ass to choir practice. Typical morning again. But what's really bugging me is that after that I'd have to rush to my guitar exam. Literally rushing. I can't even go home to practice okay.
And you'd think I'd have a breather during the evening.
No, no, no.
Remember what I mentioned earlier? A concert?
Yep that's the last day of primary school, I have to give the performance we've promised, oh yeah.
I think we're just gonna wing it. Seriously. I have to admit though, we indeed put in quite some effort for this. We have the motivation, the drive to do this, a purpose, but what's obstructing us is time. Oh time, have mercy on us.
Being the insane freaks we are, we decided to do a "band camp" on the spot, realizing the fact that we have zero fucking common free dates. So yeah, last night my baby and my good ol' pal had a sleepover. Just on a whim. Purpose - to save just COMMUTING time.

Now let me stay off the painful, annoying things and rant about something interesting. Well, at least interesting to me.

A Piece of Band Life:

Alright, I shall talk about being in a band for a bit now.

1. Let me clear this misconception. Being in a band, a fucking rock band by the way, not those faggoty boy bands/bimbotic girl groups no no no, is not just about the sex, drugs & rock 'n' roll. Oh yes you need the groove but seriously, if you're forming a band the main purpose should not be fame. 'Cuz that will get you a bucketful of self-indulgence and in reality, nowhere.
A band is about almost 100% effort and commitment. If you can't give, you leave. The fun can wait. The three of us girls, we started a humble cover band last year. We had big dreams, but now we're still pretty much a cover band. I'd dare say we improved a lot, but this is really because we put in effort to nurture the band and we go through all kinds of trouble.
We now take the initiative to do things such as propose daring ideas to organizations, namely our primary school. We try to get other musicians involved to and publicize as much as we can. Yep we've now matured. Glad to say that yesterday we actually broke down the songs into parts and drilled them until they were good enough.

2. When you're in a band, what really keeps you going is chemistry. You need chemistry, you can't evade it, you can't lack it. You really need to build rapport with your bandmates. I realized through playing in groups (choir is also a group affair, not only my cover band... simple collaborations also count) that you really need to depend on each other. It is so important to listen to one another, make sure you don't completely drown out the others, and not only that, sometimes you depend on each other just to remember the song and pull off a great set. That's what we did yesterday. It's all about helping each other. Guess we got a head-start since we have been the best of friends forever. Just gonna give you an example of THROAM since I've been reading it recently (guilty pleasure haha), you know when dirty secrets get exposed between bandmates and they squabble over shit, that's the time a band falls apart. And they kinda did. Hehe.

3. Things always don't go as planned. This is very true. You know, we got all hyped up when we found out we were getting a vocalist, and we wanted to meet her (plus her bf) at STGCC, but she fucking bailed. It was so late, and she didn't clarify things properly, and we gave up. Enough of waiting. We just left, and I haven't heard of her ever since. So much excitement over nothing, really. Another example: we planned a large-scale event in order to accumulate huge amounts of CIP hours for ourselves, but it got down-sized to a freaking one item performance by the "IJ Alumni Band". Yep. You see where we're going.

4. Starting a band is an extremely money-draining thing. I swear, everything about music is expensive. Allow me to let you in on how much I've spent, okay? My Syn guitar is 1.2k, my initial amp was a hundred bucks, quite all right, but I upgraded it. And my lovely Laney costs a thousand dollars. Kudos to me. Moreover, before my Laney I bought a Pearl drum set. It costs $1000+, cost inclusive of the Sabian cymbals bought separately. Oh yes, my Boss distortion pedal costs less than a hundred. Oh the pains. Basically to form a band you need to be either a) rich or b) sell-outs. Hah.

I'm now running out of ideas and I have work to do, so...
SEE YOU ALL

Can I trust you to support my performances? ;)

Teenagers are suffering from hair loss.
Prematurely graying hair.

Children in primary school are piled with rapidly accelerating syllabus gradually becoming impossible to even catch.
Secondary school students have 3 times the number of subjects as compared to that.

Morals and life skills have to be taught in a lesson, even relying on role play.

Reflections are something forced to be done and not of people's own will.
It becomes a chore instead of something that should be done subconsciously every time.

Stuck on the wrong wave, and you're out.

-Like A Bird- 8:08 PM

Fly, fly like a bird.
Sometimes I wished I was a bird.
Full of freedom.

My mask cracked but another one lies beneath.
Lies, lies lies.

I need to cross de Nile.

Chimera, dream, fantasy, illusion.
Delusion.

Why do I tremble?
Out of fear, pleasure, suffering, or distress?

I find solace in the dark themes of Yugioh.
How these characters have a dark side to themselves.
They make them braver, more confident and determined.

Why am I so weak, unable to face the truth?

But I'd rather be called weak than die thinking I was strong

There is hope if I have faith and believe.

-Den lille Havfrue- 8:08 PM

I saved my love.
Although the sounds of the cicadas are high, I am already cold and heavy
I close my eyes to the sound coming from lips that don't even realize they are open
A voice that seems to be crying and the aftereffects of words that continue emotionlessly

Your too frail smile is frighteningly beautiful
Why do you smile? The sun sets for the sake of illuminating the moon.

Stay like that forever smiling
Break your body against the everyday that seems about to disappear completely
Even if I draw the starry night, you who should be illuminated will be lost
How did the night sky get so dark?

You cries softly cease
When your surroundings are too wide, you can't feel at home
Suddenly losing words, all there are are memories
The sighs in the showcase pile thickly on one another
Like a cocoon they hide what's in front of you

Drifting Floating on the withering waves a wail blossoms
If only you could change places and be the one to forget

Stay like that forever smiling
Remembering those seemingly fragile days
Even if you dip your hand into a sea of stars
You will lose the paddle to row away
You can't move

People who disappear into the starry night
People who float in a starry sea
Colors painted in the distant sky seem to hold you hand
That voice that calls you into the dark, searches for you
Has once more opened the door of night's memory

-Different Sense- 11:34 PM

Hello my dear readers.
Today I have something different for all of you.
Something rather cool in fact.
I'm going to explain Dir en grey's Different Sense PV which just came out.

Yeah, I know all the fans out there are going hysterical over the tentacle-rape and the fact that Diru actually did a guitar solo but have no idea what the PV is on about.

Well, I did my own analysis of the PV, with some ideas from Choon Hian (LOL he was the one who told me about the PV in the first place).

Okay, this song is basically about the recent Fukushima nuclear disaster. If you caught one bit in the PV saying R-70, yeah that's it. If I'm not wrong, it's about the radiation exposure, 70 R an hour. Choon Hian said at first that it might be the Hiroshima bombing because of the picture but this proved otherwise. I mean, it isn't really interesting to make two songs about the Second World War. Vinushka showed enough scenes, made an impact, bam they were successful. I'm pretty sure it doesn't help to redo that again in here, so they should have worked on something else. And the perfect setting - the recent disaster. It's definitely something they have been affected by, so maybe writing a song about it is more logical than the World War II.

Okay, so about that mutant octopus creature. I assume this is talking about the tsunami and the radiation, as well as the possible after-effects.
Well, the octopus creature seems to be something random, but I don't think it really is that random. It probably signifies the mutation of the people due to over-exposure to the radiation. There were some scenes of the ultrasound scan, no? Correct me if I'm wrong. But that's not it, it's still missing some gaps.

And here comes the confusing part.
Pause at roughly 0:59, you can see a picture, it looks like a traditional drawing. It flashed past the first time I watched, without pausing, but I knew it had to be this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dream_of_the_Fisherman%27s_Wife
I recognize it somehow from long ago, haha photographic memory? Nah.
And then we also see several clips of a supposed hentai anime, Mahou Shoujo Ai, according to a Youtube user, but I don't know how true that is. Haha. I don't watch it! But the point is, it depicts tentacle-rape.
And so, we've got two types of tentacle erotica, the old, traditional type from 1814, and the modern types. And what has this got to do with the PV and the disaster?
Aha.

'The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife is often cited as an early forerunner of tentacle erotica, a motif that has been common in modern Japanese animation and manga since the late 20th century. Modern tentacle erotica similarly depicts sex between human women and tentacled beasts; notably, however, the sex in modern depictions is typically forced, as opposed to Hokusai's mutually pleasurable interaction.[10] Psychologist and critic Jerry S. Piven, however, is skeptical that Hokusai's playful image could account for the violent depictions in modern media, arguing that these are instead a product of the turmoil experienced throughout Japanese culture following World War II.[11]"'

This is quoted from the Wikipedia article I linked above.
This thus tells us the link between the seemingly random tentacle-rape and the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
However, this is not about World War II anymore, but it is a similar kind of disaster.
So I guess we can safely assume, the images shown to us are conveying the message of the turmoil experienced throughout the recent disaster as well as the people suffering from the after-effects, the many sacrifices made.
Now it all makes sense. Well, to me at least.

Haha, I hope this helped you if you were a random passerby or loyal reader.
Cheers!
Sze Hui =D

P.S. I don't mind imparting these ideas to the public, but I sure wouldn't appreciate anyone claiming it was theirs or worse still, me copying their ideas. I swear it was done by me and special thanks to Choon Hian =)

Credits to Dir en grey for their awesome music and video!

-The Darkest Nights- 7:02 PM

For so long I have felt alone

Content to live with unrest

Longing faded into countless nights

That buried my weary heart

But You brought an end

To this dead hour

And meaning to a calloused life

Held in Your arms

But too far from my heart

These thoughts will carry me through

The darkest nights

While Your eyes rest in mine

I remember the way You looked at me

And the way You drew me cose

With one deep sigh

Scattering pieces of my restless mind

Forgetting all that we have left behind

-Here comes that time of the year again.- 10:59 PM

I don't know how many times I have been feeling like this already during 2011.
For crying out loud.
The feeling of being so fucking stressed out.
Stress from every single aspect of life even imaginable.
Shall I list out the troubles bothering me now?
Sure.
1. Choir (Tomorrow there's an audition for a song I've barely touched in a long time, good luck to me. Solfege/pitch test which I am absolutely going to loathe. Nightingale? Right.)
2. Homework (I have this big pile of homework, bothering me to the ends of the earth. Not going to elaborate.)
3. Piano exam (My piano exam's damn early this year, 8th July. And it's Grade 8, the last one I'm gonna take, the one bound to be flunked. I have 100001 extra practices which are taking up my time. And the exam studio booking.)
4. Guitar exam (Okay well, this isn't bothering me that much yet, since it's the end of the year, but still, I'm taking Grade 4 and I still have much to learn.)
5. Personal promises (I still need to learn Baretta properly. But I'm happy to do so.)
6. The person who went overseas, which resulted in the 3 of us doing the Literature and Music performance task, even completing them. Last one on my mind though.
7. NYAA (Fuck this, you expect me to recall guitar lessons from October 2010 onwards? Yeah, damn right.)
8. My sleep. Where's the time to sleep now?
9. Food. Yes, I'm busy till the extent food is not even being thought about.
10. I feel like burying myself under the rock now but I should be a good girl.
11. IJ Event (I need to liaise with the teacher in charge and then practice for it.)

After all this, releasing my pent-up stress, I guess I feel better.
I swear, once I overcome 2011, 2012 will be fucking awesome.
Here's to 2011, and 11.11, the current time now.
My previous post was 11.11 too. Cool.
=)

-Haunted?- 11:11 PM

Visited one of Singapore's most haunted places today - the Hillview Mansion.
Not gonna say much though... I guess I already told the people who I wanted to tell LOL.
Some points to note:
- The house on the highest spot on the hill, higher than even the tallest condominiums (I question the fengshui though)
- Great view, could see the full moon without being blocked by any buildings
- Overgrown grass, sign of low maintenance (according to my father, it was worse the last time he went there, before the landslide. There were many trees and all)
- Couldn't see the house at all. Either it was way too deep inside OR the landslide destroyed it
- Creepy main gate: arrows on top to prevent people from going in. (according to my father, the last time he visited, the gate was a tall, black one looking very intimidating. Now it's white, with some flowers for the design)
- Creepier side gate: Two thick, tall walls beside it, looks as if you were entering a prison. Interesting to note the way it was built. Vines/creepers/weeds growing all over the gate.
- Handwritten warning: 'PRIVATE PROPERTY NO ENTRY'
- Slope leading to it was interesting too. An extremely steep climb, large gradient. I think it's around a 60-70 degree angle. Scary for me to descend.
- Last point, personal: Around a year or two back, I went to view a house RIGHT beside it. And my father didn't say anything about that mansion.

Yep, sounds pretty eerie indeed.

This is unrelated, but...
I have a confession to make. I like guys with long hair and beards.
Darn, I sound like I'm talking about Jesus.
Well, example below:
He's Tomo Miličević.
I like this picture better though:

And I swear Dir en grey looks much better after they outgrew the costumes and grew some facial hair. Here's my favourite guy:
Woops, this is small. Oh well.
Now this is perfect. *hearts*

This is kinda random, but I like this picture of Shinya and Toshiya. Gosh, Toshiya looks awesome with glasses *_* (Check out that little soul patch there!)

-Q&A- 1:25 PM

Hello my dear readers.
Thanks to the not-so-overwhelming response to my question in the earlier post, I went with something I thought would be good anyway.

To reveal what my question was all about, British or American sound, I'm actually talking about amplifiers.
Yesterday I set off to buy an amp that would get me really rockin'. Haha.
I bought a Laney, a British amp. :)
I think it will be one of the most awesome amps ever, it is pure tube, Class A tone!
Compared to my lousy solid-state which was not a very good companion to my high-end guitar. Hehe.

Well, I got a Boss distortion pedal to go with it, DS-1.
It's the most classic distortion pedal ever, as much as I wanted the Electro Harmonix Metal Muff, I thought it'd be better not to blow my father's hard-earned money away. I was already pushing it with the amp, anyway XD

Yeah, the MT-2 Metal Zone Boss pedal sounded pretty good to me actually, I loved that metalcore tone, but it wasn't versatile at all. No matter how I tweaked it, it couldn't go any tamer. What I got from turning the distortion knob down was a thin, weak tone, it was horrible. So I went with the DS-1. Not good enough to play extreme metal, but tight and definitely more versatile.

So I got some happy returns indeed!

And to be honest, I was a chicken when trying out the amp and pedals. I didn't really dare to play much, just the thought of people hearing my amateur playing on a tube amp is just URGH.
At least this time round I dared to play with the knobs and had a better understanding of tone.

And about the 10 Years Today lyrics, it's gonna be on my most meaningful songs list, definitely.
Matt Tuck wrote the song based on his friend who committed suicide when he was 15 years old, or otherwise 10 years before the song.

You ought to listen to the song, the powerful metal riffs might give the song a bit of a hard edge to it, but the lyrics give another type of feeling entirely. Delivered in pure BFMV style, it was pleasant for me hear and click the replay button over and over. Matt Tuck's vocals never fail to pull me into the Bullet world =)

-10 Years Today.- 12:43 PM

Ten years ago, I got a call that nearly killed me
Repeat yourself, my hands are shaking
When I was told, my friend was gone I felt so guilty
A thousand questions left unanswered

I'll bleed if you want me to!
I'll serenade before I do
I'll bleed if you want me to!

On and on although you're gone, candles burn without a flame on
Our final call to you, I know you're listening
How could you leave us that way?
Where did you go? Ten years today

Ten years ago, I stood beside the wood that held you
I must sit down, my legs are shaking
We let you go, with gifts of plectrums for your journey
And melodies to help you on your way

I'll bleed if you want me to!
I'll serenade before I do
I'll bleed if you want me, to!

On and on although you're gone, candles burn without a flame on
Our final call to you, I know you're listening
How could you leave us that way?
Where did you go? Ten years today

I'll bleed, if you want me to (I'll bleed if you want me to!)
I'll bleed if you want me to!

On and on although you're gone, candles burn without a flame on
Our final call to you, I know you're listening
How could you leave us that way?
Where did you go? Ten years today
Where did you go? Ten years today
Where did you go?

How could you leave us that way?
Where did you go? Ten years today

Yo people.
Just back from Genting and I see OMEN :DDDD
WHEEEEEEEEEE~

"It's an omen men men men men~"

As usual, there was a mind-blowing synth breakdown.
Absolute mind-fuck.

Haha now watching funny videos on Youtube while waiting for my hair to dry.
